If there’s one accessory I’m incapable of resisting, it’s sunglasses. Or glasses in general, for that matter. I call them face jewellery because nothing transforms your look quite like the right pair.
From oversized statement frames to delicate frameless styles with coloured lenses, every pair has its own personality. I tend to lean towards lighter, more understated frames in summer, while winter is the perfect excuse for something oversized and dramatic. The right pair can completely pull an outfit together.
I’ve always trusted Amy Benson at Eyesite Privi to guide me. She understands my face shape, knows which styles suit me and is brilliant at sourcing frames you simply won’t find everywhere else. It’s a relationship that’s evolved over the years, and one I value enormously. Buying sunglasses isn’t something I’d ever do on impulse, and I always think it helps to take someone with you whose opinion you genuinely trust.
Before investing in a pair, think about what you need them for. Driving, skiing, walking or simply lounging by the pool all call for different lenses and different levels of protection.
I also love glasses chains. Having a small collection allows you to change the look of your frames instantly, adding another layer of personality. After all, if glasses are face jewellery, then the chain is the finishing touch.
Looking after your glasses is just as important as choosing them. Have them professionally tightened from time to time, keep the lenses clean and always carry a soft case in your handbag. A little care goes a long way in keeping them looking their best.
One trend I’m particularly enjoying is ‘shopping glasses’ a phrase coined by Amy Benson. These lightly tinted lenses work just as well indoors as they do outside, making them effortlessly stylish, practical and endlessly wearable. They’ve become one of the most versatile additions to any eyewear collection.
And never forget sunglasses aren’t just a fashion statement. They’re SPF for your eyes, making them one of the smartest accessories you’ll ever own. I store my favourite pairs in a Perspex box, where they’re displayed like jewellery and easy to choose from each day.
