Quiet luxury, the name associated with the uber brands like Loro Piana and mastered by Sienna Miller in Anatomy of a Scandal and the whole cast of Succession.
Luxury doesn’t shout, it whispers. It’s no labels, muted tones, luxurious fabrics. It’s beautiful and sophisticated but, its become a little boring!
For years I have only worn neutral clothes (plus gold, as gold is a neutral!) But, a mixture of learning that ginger spice only wears white so as to look ‘classy’ and a weekend in a city clad in Shein sourced white/ beige/ greige head to toe families, I just cant do it anymore. I need colour, I need texture and I need pattern and I know I am not alone.
Now, unfortunately as with every trend – and this is, like everything else, including ‘timeless fashion’ ‘French girl fashion’ and ‘capsule dressing’ a trend – fashion land has gone too far.
A Lauren Sanchez coded ‘I’m rich and I’ve spent a lot of money on my clothes and my body’ look is coming…. and this is for a braver and louder woman than me.
However, somewhere in the middle of beige sweaters and booby bandage dresses is a more wholesome, sustainable and thoroughly more joyful place is wearing clothes that make you feel happy.
It might be the story behind where you bought them – how many of us are falling back in love with markets, shops and even shopping centres? When you are having a lovely time and find a great piece, it’s immediately a happier addition to your wardrobe.
Or, it might be the colour, the pattern or the shape that’s just a little ‘off’ which makes it so right for you.
This is about dressing for your personality, your day and the person you want to be proud and loud about.
