At Elevate, our favourite question to ask inspiring individuals is simple yet profound:
How do you live beautifully and elevate the everyday?
This week, we spoke with Tayba Azim, Psychotherapist and Mizan Practitioner, whose integrative, holistic approach to wellbeing is transforming the way women reconnect with themselves, their stories, and their bodies. With over two decades of experience in healing, education, and empowerment, Tayba has created a practice, nurturing heart and womb, that embodies what it truly means to live with balance, compassion, and beauty, from the inside out.
“For me,” Tayba shares, “living beautifully is about harmony – between the mind, the body, and the soul. It’s about creating space to listen, to rest, to heal, and to live with intention. When we honour every part of ourselves, even the parts that feel broken, we begin to see beauty in our own becoming.”
Based in Leeds, Yorkshire, Tayba’s work draws deeply from both professional expertise and lived experience. As a solo mother of two grown-up children and proud ‘Glam-ma’ to two grandsons, she knows that life rarely follows a straight path. Yet through resilience and reflection, she has built a thriving private practice supporting women navigating trauma, identity, faith, and health – all through an anti-oppressive, culturally sensitive lens.
“I’ve always been passionate about helping women reconnect to their own wisdom,” she explains. “Many of us carry so much – physically, emotionally, and spiritually – and we’re not taught how to tend to that. My work invites women to slow down, to remember their strength, and to nurture the parts of themselves that have been silenced or ignored.”
Tayba’s unique approach blends psychotherapy with Mizan Therapy, a traditional womb-healing modality rooted in Eastern wisdom. This combination allows her to work holistically – addressing both the emotional narratives and physical imbalances that often intertwine. “The body remembers,” she says. “Sometimes words aren’t enough – and that’s where Mizan comes in. It helps women release, rebalance, and reconnect with their core selves.”
When asked how she elevates her everyday life, Tayba smiles; “I live by rhythm – whether it’s aligning my work with my menstrual cycle, pausing to meditate, or making space for reflection. It’s those rituals that keep me grounded, yet elevated.”
“I structure my work around my life – not the other way around,” she adds, “balance isn’t static. Some days I’m in full therapist mode; other days, I’m in ‘Glam-ma’ mode or simply resting. I’ve stopped seeing that as a failure and started viewing it as flow – that’s how I live beautifully.”
Her philosophy extends beyond her practice into the retreats she facilitates for Muslim women – nourishing spaces where faith, rest, and reflection intertwine. “These retreats are about remembering that stillness is sacred,” she says. “They give women permission to pause, to breathe, and to reconnect to themselves and to their faith. And, beauty often thrives in these quiet moments.”
Launching her business just two weeks before the first Covid lockdown, Tayba’s path hasn’t been without challenge. “I thought it was over before it began,” she admits. But as the world turned inward, her work flourished. “Women needed connection, healing, and culturally sensitive spaces more than ever. That time showed me my work wasn’t just needed – it was necessary.”
Looking ahead, Tayba dreams of expanding her practice into a social enterprise – a space where culturally and spiritually sensitive therapy is accessible to all, alongside training programmes for future practitioners. “Healing isn’t linear, and it isn’t one-size-fits-all,” she reflects. “I want to create something lasting – a community where women can learn, grow, and feel seen.” In doing so, Tayba continues to live beautifully and elevate the everyday, inspiring others to do the same.
