When September comes, the leaves start to change, the nights draw in and there is a chill in the air and the country pub comes into it’s own.
Sundays on the beach or at bbq’s are naturally replaced by cozier pursuits. Enter, our newest find and one that will be featuring heavily this autumn winter – the Grantley Arms.
A new offering from Grantley Hall, the Grantley Arms brings seasonal flavours and warm elevated hospitality to the heart of North Yorkshire.
Situated just a two-minute drive or a picturesque country walk from the hotel in the neighbouring Grantley Village, the pub offers (as you would expect) the very best of Yorkshire’s local flavours in a relaxed yet refined setting.
At the helm of the kitchen is Chef Patron Gavin Swift, formerly Senior Sous Chef at Grantley Hall. With over 20 years of culinary experience, Gavin’s passion for local Yorkshire produce and Mediterranean flavours, inspired by his childhood travels, shines through in a menu that celebrates seasonal ingredients and contemporary twists on pub classics.
Menu highlights include burrata with grilled peach, cucumber & mint; king prawn cocktail; Yorkshire coast fish & chips; braised beef & ale pie with mash; North Sea fish pie with mussels; and a selection of dishes from the grill including Nidderdale lamb chops and honey rose harissa chicken with tzatziki. A daily specials board will also champion fresh fish, limited-edition creations and plates designed around the best seasonal produce, ensuring there’s something new and delicious to try with every visit.
Inside, the interior offers a sophisticated yet laid back setting that reflects the timeless character of a traditional village pub. Original fireplaces, ceiling beams, quirky artwork and comfortable corners sit alongside a rich palette of green, copper and natural wood. Outside, the terrace provides a tranquil spot to enjoy an alfresco drink or meal in the sunshine, complemented by beautiful views of the rolling Yorkshire countryside. Grantley Arms is both family and dog-friendly, offering a welcoming environment for all.
Gavin, who has been an integral part of the Grantley Hall culinary team since 2019, has been involved in every stage of the Grantley Arms transformation – from refurbishing the space to curating the team and developing the menu. Speaking on his new role as Chef Patron at the Grantley Arms, he said: “It’s a real honour to be appointed Chef Patron at the Grantley Arms. I’ve been part of the Grantley Hall team for several years now, and I’m proud to bring everything we stand for – exceptional quality, local ingredients, and true Yorkshire hospitality – into a relaxed, countryside setting. I actually became a chef by accident, but my very first job was in a pub. So, it feels quite special to be returning to my roots, leading a pub we hope will become a true culinary destination”.
We are confident that the Grantley Arms is set to become a standout culinary destination for those seeking the very best of Yorkshire’s local flavours in an atmosphere that feels both warm and inviting.
The pub is open Wednesday to Sunday and we look forward to seeing you there!
